IT’S A PERIOD
This was a project for Menstrual Hygiene Day. Tackling period poverty is a cause I’m very passionate about and I wanted to create a series of visually striking graphics and animations to share a message. I wanted the design to be simple with a focus on typography. I got a good response from social media after posting this work and it’s a project I am keen to work more on in the future.
The colour palette was created with a bold red, playful pinks and softer neutrals – designed to start breaking taboos around menstrual hygiene by steering away from the light blues, greens and 'fresh' colour palette that is usually associated with menstrual products. The imagery that was chosen aims to take away the shame that comes with menstruation. Most imagery associated with menstruation depicts women doing exercise or surrounded by flowers. The imagery In this campaign shows the reality of menstruation and the products used. Some people find the campaign a little bit uncomfortable to see at first as it's so 'in your face' and not what they're used to seeing. That’s the whole point... to break the stigma.
